Chicago Gals Meet up!

If you have been following along, the past few posts have been regarding my busy week/weekend. Another event that I was lucky enough to be invited to and able to attend was a lovely blogger Chicago meet up arranged by the lovely Lisa from Archives Vintage. The meet up took place in the amazing neighborhood of Pilsen at Deliciously Vintage. The place was perfectly adorned with amazing vintage, lil gift bags for all of us and yummy treats made for us by Lisa herself.

It was so nice to see some familiar faces and to meet some new ones! There are so many great blogs out there, so many it's hard to keep up, so when some of my favorites are in the same room it's hard not to geek out on one another. I first met most of the ladies through a vintage sale of some kind. I met Emily from Sartoriography for the first time about a year and half ago at Vintage Bazaar, which is coming upon us once again Sept 18th. Emily, very witty and very lovely, has a blog that is worth putting in your daily blogroll! Lisa from Archives I first met last summer at Vintage Heaven. If you haven't already, you should definitely check out her shop! I am currently coveting about 3 items right now:)

A familiar face whom I see all over this city, sales, flea markets, the grocery store, is Leilani from Thriftaholic. Leilani and I share numerous obsessions, thrifting, tapestry handbags and full skirted dresses! Her blog not only makes you swoon over her finds but it gives you a look into fun events happening all over the city. It has been a daily read of mine for over a year and literally once a month, if not more, Leilani educates me on something I could possibly be missing out on here in this great city!

Here are the shots from the party that I took and some Sara from It's About the Look took. She was so sweet to email me all the shots she got for us ladies! And of course some fun ones that Leilani and I just had to do of us twirling. I mean what's the point of wearing a full pleated skirted dress if you aren't going to have a twirling moment in a day. Let alone finding someone else who shares the same joy:)

The sweet treats:) Thank you for all the goodies!!
Lisa, Emily, Andrea and Tabitha enjoying a laugh. I adore how this photo turned out! Andrea runs one of my favorite blogs Blonde Bedhead and she happens to be one of the sweetest ladies!

My favorite vintage dress I have at the moment. 1950's polka dot pleated dress with the most gorgeous neckline detail! You will be seeing this dress again, mostly likely very soon, as I am completely GAGA for it!

Red Patent Shoes ~ Sofft from Zappos
Tapestry Handbag ~ JenStyle Chic Vintage
Ring ~ Estate Sale
1950s Carousel Bracelet ~ Bunny's Trunk Show

And let the laughter and twirling begin!
The picture below is possibly my fav!
Nope, this one is definitely my favorite one!
 The bags!

Now for some candid shots Sara caught. I have been told on numerous occasions that I am very animated when I tell stories. I have had people video tape me, take photos and what not just to prove it to me. Well, I have to share these silly and goofy photos that rarely make it onto the blog. LOL, I look so ridiculous:) Love it!
I hope you all had a great weekend!

A BIg Splash!

Recently my amazingly talented friend Isa from Chicago Looks  was asked to participate in the unveiling of the new design of The Chicago Reader. The Reader is one of my favorite newspaper/magazines here in the city. The music selection is my personal favorite, but they cover absolutely everything going on, along with great journalism and photography.

Basically, Isa was asked to provide photos from her blog of fun stylish people here in Chicago. Little did I know I would be included in this list. While at a concert that night I get a phone call telling me I have to be at a photo-shoot the next morning. I'm told to bring different outfit options, accessories but not to worry about shoes...I'm thinking, hmmm...why no shoes? Well then it comes out, I will be getting splashed with a big bucket of water. Fun!! is my first reaction! Why? Anything comedic is way more fun than trying to be perfect in a photo-shoot.

It was a total blast! The crew, photographer, art director, make up artist, they were all so warm and friendly. They totally made the atmosphere amazing! I mean, you may think of being splashed about 100 times over and over as a great time but it was pretty hilarious. And not to mention how nice they were for mentioning Dethrose Vintage! I feel like this is going to be great! Isa was awesome and took so many behind the scenes photos and even shot a little video. Don't forget to check out Chicago Looks for you daily read of Chicago street style.

SO here you all go! The making and the end result of The Chicago Readers new design cover-shoot.

And the cover...

Other than the color of my top, the rest is totally real. That is how much water I was hit with! Hahaha...

xoxo, Karyn

500 is my lucky number

I am very excited to report that I am almost to 500 sales on Dethrose!! Once I hit that 500, I will be owing something very special for you all on that day. So please help me hit it!

This weekend I did the huge sale in Elgin Illinois that I was telling you all about a few weeks ago. It was a huge success, great turn out and I sold some really great pieces! It was definitely worth the effort and hard work I put into it. However, I now am currently buried under a ton more work. I have so many new things to post and show you and not enough time in the day. I also haven't felt very camera friendly. Recently clothing is just not fitting the way I want it to:( I am trying to find an exercise regimen I love. I'm not sure this exists but I am determined to find it. I will be posting new things this week, and just to give you a hint of whats to come, lots of 1920's, 1930's and my personal fav, the 1940's! Dresses, blouses, slips and skirts! Not to mention, accessories!!! I am so excited to share it all with you:)

Until then, here are some more photos from last week home. This is my favorite new dress that I recently got from Knee Deep. A 50's silk chiffon dress that I can't help feeling a little Marilyn and a little Grace in.

 Happy Monday!

Light

I was able to go home on a buying trip the past 3 days and just miss the cold front that was moving into Chicago. I found some really great treasures that I can't wait to show you:) There were a couple pieces I found that I just had to go ahead and show you.

Now you know every time I go home I have to take advantage and take a lot of pictures. I was able this time to wake up super early and get to use the amazing light that was coming through the bedroom. I soon as I saw this I knew exactly what photos I wanted.

These are 2 layered 1950's Slips. I found them in a box in someones garage and my heart stopped for a minute. I love them! I feel so glamorous in them.

More to come tomorrow.

Round Two

About a month ago I shot this dress in front of my Christmas Tree. This was the perfect little cotton dress I received in a dress Swap from the lovely Quincy from Q's Daydream! I wanted to reshoot it again in a outdoor setting. Once again the weather was not on my side but I made it work. I actually loved how the photos turned out. We were in the middle of the woods, down in Southern Illinois and the darkness really made the dress pop! The colors turned out so vibrant and showed just how cute this little darling dress is. I have never shot in the dark before so we had a little fun experimenting! I think the photos came out with this erie, little girl lost in the woods vibe.

On another note, just wanted to say a quick thank you to Chicago Now for writing such lovely things about my Look Book. Thank you for the recognition and for seeing all the hard work Blow-Up Creative and Dethrose did to make it!

It was actually super dark in this photo but I photo shopped it to show the landscape.
