Cozy and warm!

Even though it has been thee coldest week that CHicago has had all winter, I have managed to get out of the apartment for hunting for vintage goodies, fun with friends and just your basic gallivanting around! I went to an Estate yesterday and found some lovely items for my living room. When I arrived home I had a package waiting for me at the door. I was overcome with excitement when I saw who it was from! This week I had ordered a cardigan from Lauren at Dear Golden, Spotlight feature earlier last week, and I have been anxiously awaiting it since! I opened it immediately and realized everything I bought that day for my apartment matched it perfectly! So I thought I would show it off to you and let you see for yourself!
Everything in my home is Vintage, mostly from Estate Sales or Gifts from friends. My couch and chair however, was a pressured buy given by my Ex. I'm not a fan of this set, I want to sell and replace it asap. This is by far my favorite room in the apartment. ummmm....I mean, other than the vintage room of course...oh, and my 2 walk in closets. lol

Pants? Really?

While out shopping for Dethrose this past week, I stumbled upon this little floral 1980's jacket and skirt set. Now upon first glance you may doubt these pieces. But I saw the potential. Separates, the jacket looks fabulous alone and the skirt is delightfully adorable. Now the question is, keep or sell. I have now worn both and I love each equally. Of course I never would wear them together otherwise I may look like a cast member of Designing Women or an extra on the set of Steel Magnolias. Actually that seems kind of awesome:) hahaha. However, I don't want these pieces to look dated, separately they look phenomenal! You be the judge, here is how I wore the jacket today! And yes, I am wearing pants! hahaha!

Oh, I forgot, The boots! I found these at the same place! They are perfection!! I'm definitely keeping them:)

My Camera Won

So I give in, my camera has defeated me once again. I love my camera, I really do, but it's so darn difficult to learn when you have no photography background. The lighting in my apartment will soon be the death of me. Every photo I take must be photo shopped and then I don't even look good:(  Alas, I will not give up completely. Just tonight, tonight I will have fun with the settings.

Anyhoo, about a few months ago the lovely Quincy from Q's Daydream and I were discussing doing a fun little dress swap. Finally we did it! It was quite simple given that we have a lot of similarities when it comes to our figure and love for the 50's! I know it's quite strange, but I always feel like I know the girls of this blogging world on a different level. I mean sharing your pictures and thoughts about things, discussing our passions on a daily basis with all of you really makes you feel we know one another. Well, needless to say the package arrived last week and the dress was lovely! I fell for it right then and there. I knew I wanted to use it for a winter shoot. However, darn Chicago got in the way again. I awoke on Sunday morning, day planned, outfit all laid out and open the door, burrrrr!! Frigid temps had hit! No outdoor shooting for this little lady. Goodness, 18 degrees!!! Normally I am fine with the cold bitter air, but not when I had a day of playing in the snow in mind. It was frozen solid! I had to march back in, grunting in disappointment, and change my entire outfit. So here are the shots I ended up with indoors. But don't you worry, I will shoot this dress outdoors this week so you can appreciate its true beauty!

Suitcase

It's all about timing. To have great photos in my apartment, I have to time it perfectly with the best light of day. Since I usually am working during that small time this occurs, I am often unimpressed with the photos I take here. It's now 1am and I thought I would see what the pictures would look like. Once again, blah. I have to either wake up super early, or be at home at high noon. I must wake up early and get a head start with the sun. Not tomorrow, but maybe Sunday? Haha, we'll see:) But I photo shopped these to look half way decent.

I love this little corner of my apartment. I've collected these suitcase over the past year and I just them as decoration. Not to mention the fact that I use them for storage. But in the morning, gee it just looks so beautiful! And this is the same dress I photographed at my family's home for sale. I just don't think I can part with it though. It's just so darn cute!

Here is the difference....
So much better! I didn't have to color correct this at all! Morning light is the best light.

Wow its been awhile...

Sorry for neglecting this little ol' blog! I am currently in the process of moving, selling furniture and yada yada yada. It always takes up so much time! But this is a new and exciting time for me. I haven't lived on my own since I was 24...that was a while ago. The best part of this whole experience has been the finding and shopping for furniture. I have to say, I think I am now enjoying furniture and decor shopping as much as clothing. I'm "outfitting" my apartment and I can't way to show all of you the finished details. I am still looking for the perfect fainting couch or chaise...and I need to sell my current couch and chair...memories attached that I would love to get rid of once and for all. So if ya know of anyone who would love a big comfy couch and matching chair in perfect condition email me asap!

Every night has been full of packing tape and cardboard boxes. I miss my nights of catching up on fellow blogs and current lines. Soon I will have time to catch up and tell ya all about my favorite lines and blogs! I am so excited to see what everyone has been up to. Along with a big big photo shoot coming up in 2 weeks with Katie and Richie. I can't say much but it will be amazing!

Until then I will be taking a lot of time to work on ETSY and show you what Dethrose Vintage has been up to. I have so many new items, dresses, skirts, sweaters and accessories. And now with my new apartment I will finally have the studio space I have been dreaming of to work on Dethrose. Which means better photos, quicker turn around on listings and more frequent blog postings. In preparation for these changes I am once again holding a sale on Dethrose.

Now here is a peak of the scenery of my upcoming photo shoot ....
